Paint Annapolis 2008 pics !I did this painting from the Eastport side during a well lit evening. This painting sold at the collectors preview. It was titled "evening annapolis" 14x11 oil on board. I did this one the first morning of the competition. It also was done in eastport. Had to paint quickly as the boats were heading out at random. It also sold at the collectors preview. " Morning Annapolis" 14x11 oil on board. This is my dueling brushes entry. However, I only use a palette knife. It was a great morning and met great people. Sam Robinson, Denise Dumont and myself selected this boat as a subject. It was interesting to see the different styles we each painted the same subject in. "note- another sailboat docked dircctly in front of this boat about twenty minutes in. Sam and Denise adjusted quickly and incorporated both boats nicely. Well done guys! That's the challenge of plein air painting! Yes I know the values are off. The light changed many times and when I took this photo the dark clouds were rolling in. I went with the backlit light we had most of the time when warm light was more apparent. I liked the repetition of the sailboats on this site. Left a lot out. "3 sailers and a speed boat" 11x14 oil on board available I was drawn to the strong light in the harbor and shadowed foreground. Full concentration on the relation between the lit water and the color of the boats. This is a study of an Emile Gruppe painting that I did in preparation for Annapolis. He has had a big influence on me and I don't mind saying it.. Don't copy but use your style in conjunction with your influences. Bands do cover tunes and there's no harm in painters doing the same. Find your voice! Thank you Annapolis and all your people for showing us painters a wonderful week!! |
